It’s both. Adam Lambert is really gay and of course that helped him in getting famous.But he wouldn’t be the Queen singer if he wouldn’t have such a great voice.

Adam Lambert declared after the American Idol, where he was a contestant, that he was gay and ‘bi-curious’ and that he feels very comfortable with it. He knew he was gay from a young age, as he was very obsessed with glitter.
